CEMC: A LiveTiles Customer Story

BUILDING AN ENGAGING UX WITH LIVETILES

Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation is a member owned, nonprofit electric cooperative headquartered in Clarksville, Tennessee. For over 75 years, CEMC has been one of the largest electrical cooperatives in the state, employing over 350 people and distributing power to a growing five-county area.

Without an engaging user experience, good content is ineffective. CEMC used LiveTiles to build an intranet that made their content shine, displaying resources, integrating OneDrive, company news, video and search on a dashboard that drives communication and collaboration.

Building an engaging user experience

With LiveTiles, Supervisor of IT Jeff Williams and his team built CEMC an engaging intranet and a dynamic user experience in a week.

“Most of that time was just figuring out what we like. Do we want this color? Do we want OneDrive to be on this part of the page?” Jeff said.

“We could’ve built it all in a couple of days.”

Great intranets address the specific needs of the organization. With LiveTiles, Jeff worked with business units to build in the functionality and resources they used every day.

“I independently went to them and said, ‘What do you want?’ Then I just let them talk, took their suggestions and added them to our page,” Jeff said.

“LiveTiles is just the best solution to deliver a great user experience.”

With ‘drag and drop’ no-code features and a user-friendly design canvas, LiveTiles makes building engaging dashboards over SharePoint, Office 365 or Azure simple.

“SharePoint out of the box is just a different world. It’s very box and list driven and just not what people are used to seeing when they go to a website,” Jeff said.

“LiveTiles is just the best solution to deliver a great user experience. It’s allowed us to deliver an intranet that’s as engaging as any web page on the internet.”

“Like a good website, it tends to feed communication and user adoption.”

“When our staff open their intranet in the morning, they see their profile straight away and access all the resources they need on the one page.”

Driving communication

With its LiveTiles intranet, CEMC are communicating and collaborating across departments more effectively on a vibrant dashboard where every employee starts their day.

“We’ve had the same information on there before, but what’s different is that user experience,” Jeff said.

“We had policies, bulletins, links to forms, calendars, etc. But it’s amazing that if you can give your users an experience that they can relate to, like a good website, it tends to feed communication and user adoption.”

Built over SharePoint, but looking like anything but a SharePoint site, Jeff was able to integrate OneDrive, a news feed, search function, videos and training resources without any code.

“What you’re competing against is any other website on the internet. That’s their experience and that’s what users are used to,” Jeff said.

“When our staff open their intranet in the morning, they see their profile straight away and access all the resources they need on the one page.”
