Axpo Group is a Swiss company who produce, trade and sell energy to millions of people and thousands
of companies across Europe. With around 4200 employees, Axpo produces climate-friendly electricity
using sustainable power sources.
Axpo’s existing SharePoint-based intranet had become increasingly complex with a growing volume of content. Axpo decided to build new intranet as their first step towards creating a Digital Workplace. Taking a “less is more” design approach, the key objective was to create a more personalized, connected experience for their multi-lingual users.
Axpo had evaluated various solutions in advance and ultimately opted for a Wizdom solution with 1stQuad running the deployment. 1stQuad was able to implement the “Insider” project in close collaboration with Axpo. The core teams each comprised 3 people and were supported by Axpo’s IT department. Emma Ayubi, Project Manager at AXPO explains, “We wanted to launch a Social Intranet with personalization options and initial social features, that would serve as the basis for institutionalized bottom-up and peer-to-peer communication. Axpo also renewed its corporate design. The new intranet is the first corporate solution to feature the new corporate design.” As Axpo’s intranet is used internationally, multilingualism was also an important requirement. The new solution was developed using an agile methodology across a dozen sprints.
Axpo employees now enjoy the multiple benefits of their intranet which they aptly named “Insider”. Navigation and content now have the same user-friendly look and feel featuring Axpo’s new corporate design. “Insider” is responsive across all devices, a key piece of functionality that was not available on the previous intranet. The company’s social and peer-to-peer imperatives are met with targeted company news published across various subscription channels. Users have the ability to like and comment on contributions. To overcome language barriers 1stQuad developed multi-lingual functions to make content available in German and English. Users can now switch between languages on each page.
