BUILDING A VIRTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

The Challenge

Abingdon & Witney College had an outdated portal built on Moodle that was clunky, difficult to maintain and wasn’t compatible on a mobile or tablet device. The College’s IT department were spending a lot
of time just trying to maintain an environment that simply wasn’t engaging its staff or students.

The Solution

Anxious to find an alternative solution, Abingdon & Witney came across LiveTiles and were immediately impressed with the feature-rich and beautiful design tool.

Able to leverage their existing Office365 environment, the College used LiveTiles to
create the perfect Virtual Learning Environment
named the ‘HUB’.

The Result

With LiveTiles, Abingdon & Witney College are staying ahead of the curve. Seen as an innovative institution that is embracing new technology, the College is attracting new students of all ages and abilities.

On an engaging portal that’s flexible and easy to manage, students are able to display course material, videos, Yammer, assignments, newsfeeds and much more.

LiveTiles’ responsive and mobile friendly canvas means they can access the HUB wherever they are. Staff are
seeing greater consistency in the way they work, able to share resources digitally and access them on any device.

“After only 10 minutes of using the HUB I was already sold,” said one staff member. “Submitted assignments are now collected and located easily in my OneDrive. I am actually looking forward to some swift marking!”

Yammer has been integrated into their portal and is now used as part of a virtual learning environment to ask questions and share ideas. “My favorite part is that students are able to ask anonymous questions about assignments, which saves them from asking something in front of the class that they might otherwise find too embarrassing,” explained the teacher.
